Flashover Training Press Release

Christopher Maeder, Chief
Fairview Fire District
258 Violet Avenue
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

The weekend of April 19th to the 21st, Fairview Firefighters and other county fire department personnel will be conducting valuable hands on training not typically available within Dutchess County.   In partnership with New York State Fire Chief’s Association, Dutchess County, and multiple fire agencies; firefighters will be learning and experiencing Flashovers in a controlled environment.  A flashover occurs when all of the combustible material in a room reaches their ignition temperature at the same time.  Flashover’s kill and burn many firefighters annually.

Firefighting personnel will attend a didactic session on Friday evening at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. On Saturday and Sunday, firefighters will be broken up into groups where they will enter the simulator and experience the progression of a flashover.   This hands on part of the program will occur at the Fairview Fire Station, located at 258 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie.

The Fairview Fire District would like to acknowledge the generosity of Sandy Williams of Williams Lumber for assisting with the procurement of supplies needed for this training opportunity.
